As a Custodian with Algoma Housing Authority, you’ll play a key role in ensuring our community shines while providing a safe and comfortable space for residents to call home.
Position Overview
We’re looking for a dedicated and compassionate Custodian to join our team. Working in a public housing apartment building, you’ll be responsible for maintaining clean, orderly, and inviting spaces in common areas and ensuring vacant apartments are move-in ready for new tenants. Your role will directly support the comfort and well-being of our residents, including seniors and individuals with disabilities, while contributing to the heart of our community.
Key Responsibilities
At Algoma Housing Authority, every task you perform makes a meaningful impact. Your work will focus on:
- Safety First: Responding to hazardous situations, such as flooding, icy entrances, or wet floors, to ensure a safe environment.
- Turning Spaces into Homes: Preparing vacant apartments for new residents, including cleaning cabinets, appliances, showers, and more.
- Keeping the Community Sparkling: Cleaning and maintaining common areas like offices, hallways, laundry rooms, and shared spaces.
- Attention to Detail: Sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, and buffing floors, along with vacuuming carpets and performing light repairs when needed.
- Seasonal Support: Helping with tasks like snow shoveling or salting entrances during the colder months.
- Being a Caring Presence: Building positive relationships with tenants while maintaining a professional and respectful demeanor.
Experience & Qualifications
We’re looking for someone who:
- Has a high school diploma, GED, or equivalent experience.
- Brings 2+ years of custodial experience or demonstrates the ability to excel in the role.
- Is compassionate, professional, and dependable.
- Understands the importance of maintaining high standards for cleanliness and safety.
